US Public Doubts Trump’s Strait of Hormuz Claims Amid Midterm Elections

President Donald Trump’s assertions of U.S. control over the Strait of Hormuz face growing skepticism domestically, as protracted conflict and economic concerns impact his approval ratings ahead of crucial midterm congressional elections.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, recent reports indicate that while President Donald Trump continues to emphasize U.S. dominance over the Strait of Hormuz, the prolonged conflict and its escalating costs are raising significant questions about the viability of these claims within the United States. These developments coincide with the approaching midterm elections, where Republicans and Democrats are vying for control of Congress.

Trump’s insistence on maintaining control over the Strait of Hormuz is now complicated by the extended duration of the conflict and its financial repercussions within the U.S. His approval ratings have reportedly reached their lowest point in months, a critical juncture given the upcoming midterm elections.

The report highlights that public opinion polls suggest Democrats hold a lead, with 46% support compared to the Republicans’ 40%. The ongoing conflict and its impact on the cost of living for Americans are identified as key factors contributing to this shift. Meanwhile, Trump is reportedly seeking a path to conclude the conflict that allows him to claim victory.

The White House has launched an extensive media campaign, asserting that gasoline prices in the U.S. will decrease. This focus on energy costs is considered particularly significant for American voters. James Butler, a member of the Democratic National Committee, stated that Americans are engaged in a seemingly endless conflict with Iran, which has led to a global energy crisis, affecting fuel prices, electricity bills, and food costs for the public. Democrats anticipate a victory in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

The White House is aware that Trump’s repeated claims regarding control of the Strait of Hormuz have not swayed American public opinion. Consequently, their media strategy is now centered on reducing gasoline prices. U.S. Vice President JD Vance emphasized that maintaining low oil prices is the administration’s primary objective. U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced the government’s efforts to bring the price of gasoline down to $3 per gallon.

Tim Constantine, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of The Washington Times, suggested that with the diminishing effectiveness of military options to compel Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, Trump is shifting towards economic pressure. This approach, he noted, further limits Trump’s options in the current sensitive domestic political climate.
