Egyptian Foreign Minister Consults with Trump Advisor on Horn of Africa, Sudan, and Libya
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry held a phone conversation with Mossad Bolous, senior advisor to the U.S. President for Arab and African affairs. During the call, Shoukry underscored the importance of preserving the territorial integrity of regional countries and the necessity of achieving political solutions to de-escalate tensions.
Regarding the situation in Sudan, the Egyptian Foreign Minister highlighted efforts to halt the ongoing conflict. He reiterated Egypt’s steadfast principles in supporting Sudan’s territorial integrity, national sovereignty, and the preservation of its legitimate institutions. Shoukry also voiced Egypt’s opposition to the formation of any parallel structures and stressed the need for safe and sustainable access to humanitarian aid, as well as advancing the political process led by the Sudanese people themselves.
Addressing the issues in the Horn of Africa, Shoukry referenced Egypt’s participation in the second meeting of countries contributing to the African Union’s peace and stability mission in Somalia. He deemed respect for the national sovereignty of regional nations and the avoidance of any unilateral actions as essential. Furthermore, he described adequate financing for this mission as vital for maintaining security gains in Somalia and preventing the resurgence of terrorist threats.
Concerning the situation in Libya, both sides discussed pathways to advance the political process. Shoukry emphasized the critical need for the unification of Libyan national institutions and identified a comprehensive political settlement through Libyan-Libyan dialogue, coupled with simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, as the sole avenue for resolving the crisis.
In response, Mossad Bolous expressed appreciation for Egypt’s constructive measures aimed at reducing tensions and fostering convergence among Libyan institutions. Both parties affirmed their commitment to continuing consultations and bilateral coordination to bolster stability across the African continent.
