Greece Deploys Patriot Missile System to Crete Amid Regional Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Greece has increased its defensive measures in response to escalating tensions between Iran, the United States, and Israel, aiming to safeguard critical infrastructure and military centers from potential threats. The Hellenic Armed Forces are transferring a Patriot missile system, along with associated equipment and personnel, from the island of Karpathos to Crete to enhance the defense of the strategically important Souda Bay area. The relocation began overnight, with Greek media reporting that the operation is expected to be completed within hours.

This deployment occurs as the Greek military remains on high alert following threats made by Iranian officials targeting U.S. bases in Europe. The Kathimerini newspaper has reported that Greek officials anticipate that NATO headquarters and systems in Europe could become targets for Iran should hostilities resume between Iran, the United States, and Israel. According to NATO intelligence assessments, Iran possesses a significant arsenal of ballistic missiles with ranges exceeding 2,000 kilometers, capable of reaching targets in southeastern Europe.
