US Removes Syria from State Sponsors of Terrorism List, De-lists Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham

The United States Treasury Department has removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism, and also delisted Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, formerly known as Jabhat al-Nusra, from its list of terrorist organizations.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the United States Treasury Department has removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. Furthermore, the name of Jabhat al-Nusra, also known as Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, which is considered a terrorist organization, has been removed from the list of terrorist groups.

The United States had previously placed Jabhat al-Nusra on the list of terrorist groups due to its ties with Al-Qaeda. However, following the dissolution of this entity in July 2025 and the establishment of a new administration in Syria, which includes Abu Muhammad al-Julani, this designation has been rescinded.

It is noteworthy that since the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria in December 2024 and the rise of terrorist elements in the country, the United States has provided significant support to strengthen the self-proclaimed Syrian government.
