Israel Initiates Evacuation of UNRWA Center in Jerusalem

Israeli forces have begun the process of evacuating a UNRWA facility in the Kafr Aqab area north of occupied Jerusalem, drawing condemnation from Palestinian authorities who label the action a war crime and a move to establish new settlements.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Israeli military forces have commenced the evacuation of a United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) center located in the Kafr Aqab area, north of occupied Jerusalem. The Israeli army surrounded the “Qalandia Institute” within the Qalandia camp, demanding private security personnel open its gates. This action follows a significant deployment of troops and military equipment into the camp early in the day, with an additional bus carrying soldiers observed entering the camp entrance.

Local sources reported that an Israeli official, accompanied by military personnel, entered the Qalandia Institute, which is affiliated with UNRWA. Simultaneously, occupation forces distributed demolition notices to Palestinian residents in the Kafr Aqab area, near the separation barrier. During the ongoing operation, Israeli forces also stopped an ambulance and detained it for a period.

Hebrew-language sources indicated that the UNRWA complex in Kafr Aqab was evacuated this morning as part of a continuous campaign against UNRWA centers and institutions in occupied Jerusalem. MK Malinovsky of the Israeli Knesset expressed confidence that Israel would gain control of the UNRWA center in Kafr Aqab, stating that Israeli forces, in cooperation with Jerusalem municipality contractors, had initiated the evacuation of the UNRWA compound near Jerusalem.

In parallel, Israel’s Minister of Internal Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, announced that Israeli police forces had begun evacuating the UNRWA headquarters in Kafr Aqab. Repeating accusations against the UN agency, Ben-Gvir alleged that UNRWA staff were involved in the October 7th events and asserted that UNRWA has no place in Jerusalem or other occupied territories.

The governorship of Jerusalem stated that UNRWA’s services in the city have been reduced due to the transgressions and actions of the Israeli enemy, characterizing these hostile measures against UNRWA as a war crime. The Palestinian authority expressed hope that international organizations would fulfill their duties and roles concerning Palestinian refugees amidst these Israeli aggressions. The statement further suggested that the Israeli objective behind the evacuation operation near Qalandia in Jerusalem is to establish a settlement hub.
