Qatar Continues Mediation Efforts Amid US Sanctions on Iran, Cautions Against Regional Escalation

Qatar remains committed to facilitating renewed talks between the United States and Iran, emphasizing that US sanctions against Tehran are unilateral and reiterating its support for mediation efforts to resolve the crisis. Doha also issued a warning about the wider regional and global repercussions of any escalation of tensions.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Qatar is continuing its efforts to ensure the resumption of negotiations between the United States and Iran. A spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that US sanctions against Iran are unilateral, and the nation supports all mediation endeavors aimed at resolving the crisis. While Qatar actively pursues mediation between the two nations, no significant developments have been reported in this regard.

The Qatari official further emphasized that any escalation of tensions in the region would inevitably lead to consequences affecting the entire region and the world. He stressed the importance of restoring the situation in the Strait of Hormuz to its pre-crisis status, underscoring the necessity of freedom of navigation in the vital waterway.

Addressing what were described as aggressive actions by the Israeli regime against regional countries, the spokesperson stated that if Israel seeks to be integrated into the region, it must adhere to its commitments. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson also expressed rejection of Iran’s attempts to draw regional countries into conflict whenever it faces an attack from a third party, without directly referencing alleged aggressive actions by the United States and Israel against Iran. Iran has consistently maintained that American bases in the region used for attacks on Iran are legitimate targets.

The official also highlighted comprehensive coordination among the Gulf states to confront various scenarios of escalating tensions. Qatar has welcomed the US administration’s decision to remove Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. Communication with all parties involved is ongoing, and any further escalation is expected to have more significant repercussions for the region and the global community.
