China Defies US Sanctions on Iran, Signals Resistance to Trump Administration

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, China, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, is communicating a stance of resistance to President Donald Trump regarding its economic relationship with Iran. This action comes just hours after the United States imposed sanctions on dozens of Chinese entities and threatened further action against a major financial institution for its engagement with Tehran.

In response to the U.S. measures, Beijing declared that its relations with Iran “must not be disrupted or weakened.” Previously, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs had stated that the country’s cooperation with Tehran is conducted in accordance with international law. Lin Jian, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasized that such cooperation should not face interference or disruption. He added that China is closely monitoring developments and will take all necessary measures to protect its legitimate rights and interests, expressing opposition to unilateral U.S. sanctions against Iran, which he deemed to lack any basis in international law.

China also stated on Friday that U.S. sanctions and pressure will not resolve the conflict in West Asia. These comments followed Washington’s recent calls for countries, including Beijing, to join efforts to isolate Iran’s economy. Responding to questions about President Trump’s threats, Lin Jian, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters that sanctions and pressure would not contribute to resolving the issue.
