U.S. Embassy in Iraq Issues Security Alert to Citizens Amid Regional Tensions
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad and its consulate in Erbil have issued a security alert to American citizens in the Middle East amid heightened regional tensions stemming from reciprocal military strikes between Washington and Tehran. The alert follows the recent escalation of security concerns in the region.
In a statement, the U.S. Embassy indicated, “Due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East, the security situation remains complex, and there is a possibility of unexpected escalations.” The embassy further advised, “Americans currently in the Middle East should exercise extreme caution and be prepared for potential flight cancellations, border or airspace closures, and travel disruptions.”
The embassy also urged U.S. citizens to monitor their flight statuses and register for the State Department’s “Smart Traveler Enrollment Program” (STEP) to receive the latest security updates and facilitate communication in emergencies. The statement outlined a series of recommended actions, including “continuously monitoring their surroundings, staying informed through local media, and avoiding demonstrations, large gatherings, and areas with a significant security presence.”
Furthermore, the recommendations stated, “Follow the instructions of local authorities, maintain direct contact with airlines for any flight schedule changes, and remain vigilant and highly prepared in public places.”
This advisory comes as Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps vowed on Tuesday to make the United States “regret” new attacks on Iran. In response, U.S. President Donald Trump warned Tehran that it would face “much stronger blows” if it retaliated. The Iranian military claimed that the U.S. terrorist army targeted a wedding ceremony in the city of Kuhastak, Sirik County, Hormozgan Province, as part of its ongoing “crimes against civilians and aggression against our country’s territory.” Initial reports indicated dozens of casualties.
Earlier on Tuesday, Ahmad Nafisi, the Political, Security, and Social Deputy Governor of Hormozgan Province, announced that the death toll from the U.S. attack on the wedding ceremony in Kuhastak, Sirik County, had risen to four, including a child. The Deputy Governor condemned the attack and stated that further details and the condition of the injured would be released upon completion of investigations.
