The United Nations Security Council has extended the sanctions against Sudan until October 9, 2026. The decision, based on data published by Mehr News Agency citing Al Jazeera, involved the approval of a resolution put forth by the United States.
Additionally, the Security Council has extended the mandate of the panel of experts on Sudan until November 9, 2026. Diplomatic sources, speaking to Al Jazeera, indicated that this technical extension provides member states with more time to continue their negotiations concerning Sudan.
Washington agreed to the one-month extension of the panel’s mission after failing to reach a consensus on a proposal to expand the arms embargo across all of Sudan.
