Pakistan Strives to Bring US and Iran Back to Negotiation Table

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Pakistan is making concerted efforts to persuade the United States and Iran to resume negotiations on an agreement previously brokered by Islamabad. Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed highlighted that while there is currently limited enthusiasm for implementing the memorandum of understanding, Pakistan remains committed to its diplomatic endeavors.

Speaking in an interview with the English-language newspaper ‘The National’, published in Abu Dhabi, Ambassador Ahmed confirmed that Pakistan maintains open and active communication channels with both Tehran and Washington at high levels. He expressed the belief that returning to the negotiating table is the most effective path to resolving the current situation and achieving a comprehensive, final agreement. The “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” provides a framework for these discussions, he noted.

Ahmed added that the proposed framework encompasses all necessary provisions and urged both parties to recommit to the process. He expressed hope for a swift realization of this goal, recalling Pakistan’s success in brokering a ceasefire in April amidst heightened tensions, which then led to bringing the parties together to work towards the memorandum. He sees no reason why they cannot be guided back to the negotiating table again.

This diplomatic push comes in the context of past events where both the 12-day war and the Ramadan war, described as U.S. aggressions against Iran, occurred during indirect talks between Tehran and Washington. These instances, according to the report, have demonstrated to the global community that the United States is not genuinely committed to dialogue and negotiation.
