Ammonia Gas Leak in Jordan’s Aqaba Port Leads to Evacuation and Casualties

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Jordan‘s Aqaba port has been evacuated as a precautionary measure following an ammonia gas leak. The incident occurred at a chemical fertilizer company within the industrial complex in Aqaba Governorate, prompting the activation of an approved emergency plan and the cautious evacuation of personnel and workers from the site.

The leak originated from a defect in one of the ammonia gas pipelines during maintenance operations at the Aqaba port. Media sources reported that the gas leak has since been contained. Several reports also indicated an explosion at the port, leading to its complete evacuation and subsequent ammonia gas leak at the Aqaba industrial complex. The explosion’s sound was reportedly heard in Eilat, in the occupied territories.

At least 11 individuals sustained injuries as a result of the ammonia gas leak in Aqaba, Jordan, which followed the reported explosion.
