Poland to Supply Patriot Interceptor Missiles to Ukraine in New Aid Package
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Poland is set to provide several PAC-3 interceptor missiles for its American-made Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine within a new military aid package. This development was reported by Poland’s TVP channel, citing Anatolia news agency.
The value of this planned package is estimated at around 50 million euros, with a primary emphasis on bolstering air defense capabilities, as confirmed by Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense.
Poland’s Ministry of Defense has acknowledged that a new military support package is in preparation, but has refrained from disclosing specific equipment details due to the classified nature of official information. The ministry indicated that the package would include equipment that Polish armed forces are decommissioning due to the end of their operational lifespan. These items, though no longer in service in Poland, are considered potentially useful for Ukraine.
Sources familiar with the preparation process suggest that interceptor missiles for Poland’s Patriot systems are among the equipment being considered for transfer to Ukraine. Irneiusz Nowak, the operational commander of the Polish Armed Forces, expressed support for supplying Patriot ammunition to Ukraine, noting that the number of missiles to be sent would be limited.
This potential transfer follows Poland’s delivery of five PAC-3 missiles to Ukraine in July. Ukraine has repeatedly urged its allies for increased ammunition for its air defense systems, as it seeks to replenish its stocks amidst continuous Russian missile and drone strikes. Kyiv has specifically highlighted its need for interceptor missiles in anticipation of Russia’s winter campaign.
In July, Poland’s Minister of Defense stated that the country had provided approximately 3.8 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine.
