European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on Wednesday in the European Parliament that Israel’s decision to advance its “E1” settlement plan in the West Bank is “unacceptable.” The data was published by the Mehr News Agency, citing The Guardian.
Von der Leyen commented on divisions among European Union member states, noting that these disagreements prevent the formation of a “unified reaction” to the developments in Gaza and the West Bank. She emphasized, “When Europe is divided, it cannot change the course of events.”
The President of the European Commission also underscored Europe’s support for Palestinians, stating, “The European Union has allocated close to one billion euros for the reconstruction of Gaza and support for the Palestinian Authority.”
She added that Europe must continue to preserve the two-state solution, while asserting that Israel has the right to self-defense, but the Palestinian people also have the right to live in security and dignity.
