Swedish Prime Minister Resigns Following Opposition Election Victory

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has announced his resignation following the opposition’s victory in the country’s parliamentary elections. The announcement came on Thursday after initial results showed his right-wing coalition had lost its parliamentary majority in the general election.

In a statement posted on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Kristersson stated, “The Speaker of Parliament will now lead the next steps to form a new government. To enable this process to begin immediately, I hereby request to be dismissed from my position as Prime Minister.”

Early results released earlier in the day by the Swedish electoral authority indicated that with votes counted from all 6,626 polling stations, the center-left opposition bloc had secured a parliamentary majority. The four opposition parties collectively garnered 49.6 percent of the votes, securing 176 out of the 349 parliamentary seats. In contrast, Kristersson’s right-wing coalition obtained 48.8 percent of the votes, winning 173 seats.
