Trump’s Son-in-Law Kushner Discussed Saudi Succession Plan with MBS: Report
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the American publication The New Yorker has revealed that during a confidential conversation between Jared Kushner, former President Trump’s son-in-law, and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, MBS’s strategy to remove his cousin, Mohammed bin Nayef, from the line of succession in 2017 was discussed.
The report cites a former regional intelligence official stating that Kushner informed bin Salman that all elements within the US government, with the exception of intelligence services, supported him. This message was interpreted as Washington’s green light for bin Salman to act against Mohammed bin Nayef.
At the time, Mohammed bin Nayef was the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia and considered one of the longest-standing partners of the US Central Intelligence Agency, while Mohammed bin Salman held the second position in the succession order.
The report further indicates that then-President Trump had significant disagreements with US intelligence agencies due to investigations into the 2016 elections and sought to undermine these services by backing bin Salman.
Months later, in 2017, bin Nayef was removed from the line of succession, and bin Salman assumed the role. Bin Nayef was subsequently detained and has been under house arrest since 2020.
