Zelensky Expresses Hope for Ukraine War Resolution Before Winter, Seeks Trump’s Assistance

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his hope for the cessation of the war with Russia before winter, stating, “I hope we end this war, and Trump will help us in this path. I think we must do this as soon as possible before winter arrives.” This statement was made during a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

President Trump acknowledged Zelensky’s remarks with a nod. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, currently in its fifth year, has been described as Europe’s deadliest land war since World War II. Despite efforts by American officials to restart negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow to avert a predicted devastating winter, these attempts have thus far been unsuccessful.

Nevertheless, President Trump conveyed optimism regarding the conclusion of the Ukraine-Russia war on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. He informed reporters that he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin is willing to meet with Zelensky. “Putin will meet; he is willing to meet and wants the war to end,” Trump added. It is worth noting that Putin and Zelensky have not had a face-to-face meeting in seven years.

Furthermore, Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, engaged in discussions with officials from both Ukraine and Russia earlier this month during a visit aimed at reviving the peace process. However, the intense engagement of the Trump administration in the war with Iran has caused a significant pause in the peace process, making their envoys’ trip a preliminary step.

These negotiations are proceeding amidst fierce aerial combat between the warring parties, each seeking a superior strategic position. Russia commenced its special military operation against Ukraine on February 21, 2022, in response to Moscow’s security concerns being disregarded, and this military confrontation continues.
