Iraqi Official Warns Against Airspace Closure Over Iran, Citing Economic Harm

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Mehr News Agency reports that Ahmad Al-Dulaimi, a member of the Anbar coalition in Iraq, emphasized that the closure of Iraqi airspace to Iranian flights, implemented under the directive of the Trump administration during the Iraqi Prime Minister’s visit to Washington, proceeded despite objections from his accompanying delegation.

Al-Dulaimi stated, “This decision is not an Iraqi one but stems from the demands of the Trump administration.” He further elaborated that closing Iraqi airspace to Iran damages the country’s interests, as the Iraqi market is reliant on imported goods from Iran.

He asserted, “The United States is seeking to intensify the blockade against Iran by spreading falsehoods, such as claims of Iraq being used to carry out attacks.” Al-Dulaimi questioned, “Why do American satellites not identify the groups responsible for such operations? The Trump administration is aiming to drag Iraq into a regional war.”

Al-Dulaimi also questioned the Iraqi Prime Minister’s inaction regarding Saudi Arabia’s attacks on positions of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF). “Why did Al-Zaydi take no action against Saudi Arabia’s attacks on the positions of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces?” he asked. “The Popular Mobilization Forces are an official Iraqi entity, and Baghdad did not move to close its borders with Saudi Arabia.”
