EU Explores NATO-Inspired Security Mechanism for Collective Response

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The European Union is reportedly exploring the creation of a new security mechanism that would mirror Article 4 of the NATO treaty. This proposed framework is designed to facilitate the coordination of responsive actions in the event of an attack on any of its member states.

Defense ministers from the European Union are scheduled to review a proposal from the European Commission for the establishment of this new security mechanism on Monday. The plan outlines that the new mechanism would be activated if one of the member states faces an attack, thereby streamlining the coordination of retaliatory measures among EU members. Notably, Article 4 of the NATO treaty is invoked when a member country perceives its security to be under threat.

However, according to reporting by the Financial Times, a number of European diplomats have expressed reservations regarding the potential effectiveness of this proposed mechanism. Concerns have been raised that its implementation could potentially overlap with existing NATO processes and lead to the creation of parallel decision-making channels.
