Italy Concludes 12-Year Military Presence in Iraq

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto announced on Tuesday that his country has finalized the withdrawal of its armed forces from Iraq, bringing an end to a 12-year military engagement.

In a statement, the Italian Defense Minister confirmed that the final contingent of troops, tasked with collecting and transferring logistical equipment, has returned to Italy. This departure occurred ahead of the initially agreed-upon deadline of September 30 with Iraqi officials.

“Therefore, our military presence in Iraq will cease as of tomorrow,” Crosetto stated. He further elaborated that this move is part of a new phase, agreed upon with Iraq and its partner nations, wherein Iraqi security forces will bear complete responsibility for their country’s security.

Guido Crosetto added that Italy intends to continue its cooperation with Iraq through training, expertise exchange, and efforts to enhance the country’s military capabilities.
