Qatar: Discussion on Joining Mecca Pact Premature, Diplomatic Channels with Iran and US Remain Active

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that discussions regarding the nation’s potential accession to the Mecca Pact are premature, while confirming ongoing diplomatic efforts to facilitate dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Ibrahim bin Sultan Al Hashmi, Director of the Media and Communications Unit at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced that contacts and visits are continuing with the aim of advancing the dialogue process between Washington and Tehran.

He stated, “We support any initiative undertaken by regional countries, including members of the Mecca Pact, to achieve stability. We welcome Saudi Arabia’s actions to protect its sovereignty, security, and stability.”

Al Hashmi also welcomed a visit by the Iranian side to be briefed on measures taken regarding the pilots’ file, noting, “We have informed the Iranian side of the latest developments concerning this case.”

Regarding the Mecca Pact, Al Hashmi explained that it strengthens regional cooperation to preserve the capabilities and stability of regional countries.

The Qatari official further elaborated that dialogue and message exchanges between the Iranian and American parties continue through Qatar and its regional partners.

He emphasized that negotiations involving Iran are ongoing, and these discussions take into account the concerns and considerations of all involved parties.

Reiterating Qatar’s stance, the Director of the Media and Communications Unit at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “We support the Mecca Pact and anyone striving to enhance regional stability. It is too early to discuss Qatar’s accession to the Mecca Pact.”
