Kremlin: We are ready to negotiate with the Ukrainian side

A Kremlin spokesman says Russia is ready to hold peace talks with Ukraine, but there are obstacles such as Zelensky's legitimacy and obtaining permission from his "Western handlers."

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is generally ready to negotiate with Kiev to end the conflict, but there are still questions about the legitimacy of Volodymyr Zelensky as the president of Ukraine.

According to Reuters, the Kremlin spokesman said: “Russia is generally ready for the negotiation process, but first we need to understand which side To what extent is the Ukrainian prepared for this work and to what extent is he authorized to do so by his supervisors? Because so far we have heard very different statements from them and [Ukraine’s position] is still not completely clear.  Peskov seems to be referring to the “incumbents” of the Western Bloc countries, as he has repeatedly described Zelensky as “the West’s puppet”.

The Kremlin spokesman also pointed out that in addition to the issue of Zelensky’s legitimacy as president, Ukraine has legally prohibited negotiations with Moscow as long as Vladimir Putin is the president of Russia; Therefore, there will be legal obstacles in this path.

Ukraine, which previously banned any peace talks with Russia as long as Putin is in office, has recently changed its stance and says it is ready for peace. During his trip to China, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kulba said on Wednesday that he would be willing to negotiate on the condition that Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected. Also, the President of Ukraine says that he is looking for a new peace plan with Russia and will unveil it by the end of this year.
