Several Russian journalists were banned from covering the Olympic Games in Paris
Russian TASS News Agency announced that the Paris Olympic Organizing Committee has revoked the credentials of 4 Russian journalists to cover the games.
This news agency says that journalists’ credentials are required to cover the Olympic Games, and its removal was “completely unexpected” and without any specific reason.
The International Olympic Committee and the French Foreign Ministry have not yet responded to requests for comment.
Previously, the request of some Russian journalists to receive accreditation to cover the Paris Olympics was rejected, and this resulted in the negative reaction of Maria Zakharova, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry. While criticizing the dual approach of the West, he pointed out that “respecting the rights of journalists and freedom of speech are just empty statements by the French president and his allies”.
