America: China’s exercises around Taiwan have deeply worried us
reported by Mehr News Agency quoted by Tass, Matthew Miller, the spokesperson of the US State Department, says that the country continues to coordinate and cooperate with Washington’s allies and regional partners regarding the recent Chinese exercises near Taiwan.
Miller said: America is seriously worried about the joint military exercises of the People’s Liberation Army (China) in the Straits and around Taiwan. The Chinese military’s response to a routine annual speech with provocative military actions is unnecessary and risks escalating tensions.
He added: We ask the Chinese army to behave with restraint and refrain from any other actions that may overshadow the peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the region. We will continue to monitor the activities of the Chinese military and cooperate with allies and partners on common concerns.
The American diplomat also claimed: America, following the Taiwan Relations Act, three joint statements and “6 guarantees”, still adheres to the long-standing “one China” policy.
The press office of the Ministry of Defense of China announced today that the People’s Liberation Army has started military exercises “Joint Sword 2024B” near Taiwan.
Taiwan Island President William Lai said on October 10 that Taipei’s efforts to maintain the current situation in the Taiwan Strait will not change and that the island will defend its “national sovereignty”!
Mao Ning, the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, in response to these statements, emphasized that “Taiwan has never been and never will be a country and does not have any kind of sovereignty.”
Taiwan held the inauguration of the new president of the island on May 20. Three days later, the Eastern Front Command of the Chinese Army began the “Joint Sword 2024-A” exercise in the vicinity of Taiwan, as well as near Kinmen, Wuqiu and Dongying Islands.
Taiwan continues to be autonomous since 1949. However, Beijing, pointing out that Taiwan is part of China’s territory, has repeatedly emphasized that it will not ignore the military option to annex the island.
