Russia Responds to Trump’s Threat Against BRICS
According to webangah News Agency, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov addressed U.S.President Donald Trump’s threats of imposing additional tariffs on countries supporting BRICS policies,emphasizing that the alliance does not target any third-party nations.
Peskov stated: “we have seen and heard such remarks, but the key point is that BRICS unites countries with shared approaches and worldviews-this is what makes it unique.” He stressed: “Cooperation within BRICS has never been and will never be directed against third countries.”
Trump earlier posted on his social media platform Truth Social: “Any country aligning with BRICS’ anti-American policies will face a 10% surcharge tariff.There will be no exceptions to this policy.”
China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning previously responded: “BRICS is an significant platform for cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries. It promotes open, inclusive, and mutually beneficial collaboration-not confrontation-and targets no nation.” She added: “China has repeatedly clarified its stance on U.S. tariff hikes. Trade wars produce no winners,and protectionism leads nowhere.”
In April 2024, Trump introduced new tariffs targeting imports from 185 countries, with a baseline rate of 10% for all goods-substantially higher for nations like China (34%), Vietnam (46%), and the EU (20%).
