Trump: Putin and Zelensky Must Meet; Myung: Peninsula Situation Is Critical
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al Jazeera, US President Donald Trump met today, Monday, with South korea’s newly elected President Lee Jae-myung at the White House.
During the meeting, Trump said: “South Korea is an critically important buyer of American military equipment. I also have a good relationship with North Korea’s leader and ther is mutual respect between us. Everyone used to call North Korea’s leader ‘Rocket Man,’ but I have a good relationship with him. The Russian president must meet his Ukrainian counterpart. If they don’t meet, it could lead to serious consequences. I will finalize any agreement after a meeting between Putin and Zelensky.I may be present for their meeting or may not-it depends on what happens in the next one or two weeks; then I will take action… Putin was reluctant to travel to the US for the Alaska summit. His visit would represent a major concession, which I appreciate.”
Donald Trump added: ”Last week alone saw 7,000 soldiers killed in the Russia-Ukraine war; this conflict must end. We are no longer giving money directly to Ukraine; rather, we sell weapons to NATO, which then supplies them to Ukraine.”
He continued: “Since World War II, we haven’t seen a war like Russia-Ukraine’s conflict. I’ve discussed nuclear disarmament with President Putin. The further spread of these weapons should not be allowed.”
on his part,South Korean President Lee Jae-myung claimed at the White House-without mentioning washington’s extensive military and financial support for Israeli forces-that America is committed to establishing peace and ending wars worldwide.
The new South Korean president added: “I ask President Trump to play an active role in achieving peace on the Korean Peninsula by engaging in talks with North Korea’s leader. Since you left office and Biden took over as president, conditions on the peninsula have worsened considerably. I will assist you in restoring peace in this region.”
