Jumblatt: Britain’s Recognition of Palestine Is Peak Hypocrisy
According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Al-Nashra, Walid Jumblatt, leader of Lebanon’s Druze community and former head of the Progressive Socialist Party, reacted to the UK’s recognition of the State of Palestine.
In response to London’s decision, Jumblatt said: “After 108 years since the atrocity of the Balfour declaration (the establishment of a fabricated regime in palestine) against the Palestinian people, Britain’s recognition of Palestine amounts to nothing more than profound ancient hypocrisy.”
It is worth noting that in 1917, when Palestine was under British mandate, the UK government issued the Balfour Declaration-named after then-Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour-which granted Jews the right to establish a fictitious state on historic Palestinian lands.
Meanwhile, Malta’s Prime Minister’s office announced that it will officially recognize Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital this Monday.
France is also expected to join other countries that have recognized Palestine over recent days.
