Ryabkov: Reimposing Sanctions on Iran Is Illegal
According to the english section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and TASS,sergey Ryabkov,Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, met today with Nigel Casey,UK Ambassador to Russia; Nicolas de Rivière,French Ambassador; and Anke Holstein, germany’s Chargé d’Affaires. Thay discussed the European Troika’s (UK, Germany, and France) efforts to unlawfully reinstate sanctions against Iran concerning the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA).
The Russian Foreign Ministry released a statement saying that the four diplomats talked about the illegal attempts by European JCPOA parties to activate the “snapback” mechanism. This mechanism would enable reinstating UN Security Council sanctions on Iran.
The statement emphasized that Russia argued there is no legal basis for Britain, Germany, and France to take this step. It added that the draft resolution seeking restoration of anti-Iranian restrictions presented on September 19 is legally void. Therefore, it cannot justify any practical measures imposing sanction pressure on Tehran regarding its nuclear programme.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also highlighted Moscow’s firm demand for european JCPOA parties to halt provocative actions. It called on them to change their destabilizing course and return to negotiations aimed at resolving all suspicions surrounding Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities.
