Grossi Nominated for UN Secretary-General

According to the English section of webangah News Agency, citing Mehr News Agency and Russia Al-Youm, Argentina has formally put forward its citizen, Rafael Grossi, current Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as a candidate for United Nations Secretary-General for the 2027 to 2031 term.
In a statement issued by Argentina’s ministry of Foreign Affairs, it said: “the Argentine Republic, as one of the founding members of the United Nations, has a long and distinguished history in multilateralism. It remains committed to the objectives and principles set forth in the UN Charter-notably maintaining international peace and security and promoting cooperation among nations.”
The statement continued: “Argentina is proud to endorse Rafael Grossi as its candidate for UN Secretary-General for 2027-2031. Grossi brings over four decades of outstanding experience as an Argentine diplomat. His key achievements focus on advancing peace and international security through clear, effective, and proactive leadership-results that are evident in practice.”
The Ministry concluded by emphasizing that “Grossi’s deep understanding of multilateral systems; his ability to foster diplomatic dialog; his credible performance dealing with serious international conflicts and crises as a neutral yet effective actor; combined with his technical expertise, language skills, and commitment to the UN Charter-make him an exceptionally qualified candidate suited to meet today’s global challenges in this role.”
