Honduras’ ruling party claims victory in presidential election after releasing a poll.

The left-wing Liberty and Refoundation Party (Libre), the ruling ​party in Honduras, announced that its presidential candidate, Rixi Moncada,⁣ is ⁢leading⁤ according to a new poll, reported by webangah News ‌Agency.

Libre‌ published data from the polling institute PLHN on ⁢X, showing moncada with ‌ 38 percent of ​the ⁢votes.

The poll-conducted at polling ⁣stations-places Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party second with 32⁣ percent, while Nasry Asfura from the National Party ranks third with 23‍ percent.

The general elections in Honduras were held on Sunday, November 30. Voters elected not only the president⁣ and three vice presidents but also ‍128 members of the National Congress, 20 representatives to‌ the Central American Parliament ⁣(Parlacen), ⁣298 mayors, and over two thousand members of local councils. According to Honduran​ law, presidential elections are single-round; thus, the candidate with the most votes wins.

This election ⁢took place amid threats from U.S.President Donald Trump ‌to impose sanctions on Honduras if voters chose leftist ​candidates. ⁣Trump had endorsed Asfura as his preferred right-wing candidate for president.
