Hadramout Tribes Alliance Responds to Southern Transitional Council Advances in Yemen

The Saudi-backed Hadramout Tribes Alliance in Yemen has reacted to the advances of the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council forces in Hadramout, following the STC’s control of Seiyun. The alliance vowed to prevent any forces from advancing towards oil companies in the region.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the head of the Saudi-backed Hadramout Tribes Alliance in Yemen, Amr bin Habrish Al-Alai, has responded to the advances of the Southern Transitional Council forces, which are affiliated with the UAE, in Hadramout.

Following the Southern Transitional Council’s control over Seiyun, Al-Alai stated that no forces would be allowed to advance towards oil companies in Hadramout. Reports indicate that the advances by the Southern Transitional Council aim to overthrow the last strongholds of the Riyadh-affiliated government in the Seiyun region.

Sources indicate that these advances are occurring amidst Saudi Arabia’s withdrawal of support for the Hadramout Tribes Alliance, suggesting a shift in the conflict dynamics within Hadramout province. Forces affiliated with the UAE have reportedly been advancing through the Southern Transitional Council towards positions controlled by the Saudi-backed Hadramout Tribes Alliance in the oil-rich province.

Local sources in Hadramout province reported significant deployments of Southern Transitional Council forces towards the outskirts of Seiyun, the capital of Wadi Hadramout, and the adjacent city of Tarim. Elements from the support brigades affiliated with the Southern Transitional Council have also reportedly taken control of the ‘Wadi Sah’ area in Wadi Hadramout.

Field sources in Hadramout noted advances by elements of the Shabwa Defense Forces, affiliated with the UAE, on the Doan axis. This coincides with military movements by the Barshid Brigade, deploying dozens of armored vehicles from Abyan province towards the Al-Khasha region, another strategically important oil region in Wadi Hadramout. The operation aims to control oil fields and overthrow the 135th Infantry Brigade, which is affiliated with Saudi Arabia.

A field source reported that “Transitional” forces passed through the Falat region, where the Al-Massila oil field is located in Wadi Hadramout, without any clashes with the Hadramout Tribes Alliance. It is noteworthy that Saudi Arabia has recently limited its support to the “Homeland Shield Forces” affiliated with it, within the Hadramout border, leading observers to believe that support for the “Hadramout Tribes Alliance” has ceased.

This shift suggests significant changes in the conflict dynamics within Hadramout province, which holds 70% of Yemen’s oil reserves.
