Portugal Prime Minister Announces Readiness to Deploy Peacekeeping Forces to Ukraine

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Portugal‘s Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has announced the potential deployment of Portuguese peacekeeping forces to Ukraine following the cessation of hostilities. Montenegro emphasized that Portugal’s military personnel could undertake similar roles in Ukraine as they currently do in neighboring countries such as Slovakia, Romania, Latvia, and Lithuania, under the frameworks of the European Union and NATO.
The Prime Minister clarified that Portugal’s involvement would not include any form of ground intervention. This declaration comes amid broader European and NATO discussions about troop deployments to Ukraine, despite Russia’s opposition to foreign military presence near its borders.
The positioning of NATO and EU forces in western Ukraine, away from Russian borders, remains a key topic in ongoing peace negotiations.
