Mazloum Abdi Heads to Damascus Amid Escalating Tensions in Eastern Syria

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Mazloum Abdi, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), has traveled to Damascus for a critical meeting with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani. The visit comes amid escalating clashes between SDF forces and HTS militants in eastern Syria, particularly west of the Euphrates River.
Meanwhile, the self-administration of northeastern Syria has issued a stark warning about the potential escape of detained ISIS members in Raqqa if Syrian army attacks continue. In a statement, the administration emphasized that sustained military operations near detention facilities could destabilize security, posing a serious risk of reactivating ISIS terrorist cells. Such an outcome, it warned, would have catastrophic consequences not only for northeastern Syria but for the entire country, the region, and the world.
The self-administration stressed that protecting detention centers and refugee camps, particularly those holding ISIS detainees, is a collective responsibility. It called for an end to attacks, adherence to international humanitarian law, and guarantees for civilian safety and critical infrastructure. Additionally, it urged the international coalition to recognize the gravity of the situation, fulfill its obligations, and take immediate action to halt violations by groups linked to Syria’s transitional government.
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the region’s stability and counterterrorism efforts, vowing not to remain passive in the face of threats to northeastern Syria’s security.
