Iran’s National Information Network Positioned as Key Pillar for Digital Economy Growth

According to the Economic Desk of Webangah News Agency, a recent online session convened the Deputy for National Information Network Development of the Ministry of Communications with the Directors General of Communications and Information Technology from all provinces across the nation to thoroughly examine the dimensions, development trajectory, legal mandates, and provincial roles in advancing this major national project.
Vahid Yazdanian, during the meeting, outlined the capacities inherent in the National Information Network, defining it as one of the fundamental infrastructures necessary for developing the digital economy and achieving sustainable national advancement. He stressed the essential need for synergy at both national and provincial levels to realize the network’s objectives.
National Information Network Driven by Private Sector Investment
The Deputy for National Information Network Development referenced existing legal documents and high-level mandates, classifying the National Information Network as a public-driven structure. He explained that the network’s development relies heavily on active investment and participation from the private sector, necessitating a design and implementation strategy capable of addressing the communication, service, and content requirements of all segments of society.
Stressing the critical function of the provinces in operationalizing this network, Yazdanian identified the provincial Directors General of Communications and Information Technology as the principal actors responsible for executing policies and coordinating efforts among executive bodies, private enterprise, and the digital ecosystem within each region.
Network Not Intended to Replace the Internet
In another segment of the high-level discussion, Yazdanian addressed common misconceptions surrounding the National Information Network. He firmly rejected the notion that the network is designed to replace or restrict the existing internet. Instead, he clarified that the primary goal is to enhance the resilience, quality, security, and overall efficiency of the nation’s communication and digital services.
Furthermore, Yazdanian confirmed that the development of the National Information Network incorporates the latest communication technologies. He asserted that leveraging these cutting-edge technologies is mandatory for effectively meeting the escalating demands of users, businesses, and public services.
Provincial Role in Achieving Network Objectives
Following these remarks, the Directors General of Communications and Information Technology from the various provinces presented their questions, clarifications, and perspectives regarding the executive, technical, and economic facets of the National Information Network. The Deputy responded to these inquiries and emphasized the importance of continuing these specialized forums to foster a shared understanding and administrative coordination.
The session concluded by underscoring the imperative for provinces to actively participate in the balanced development of the National Information Network, utilizing local capacities to meet the country’s broader goals within the digital economy framework.
