Erdogan Warns of Global Economic Recession Amid Strait of Hormuz Crisis

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the continuing Iran crisis, which began on February 28, has underscored Turkey’s strategic role in global energy supply. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony for renewable energy projects in Ankara, Erdogan noted that many nations are bracing for potential economic recession should the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz persist.
The Turkish president emphasized that both the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz serve as stark reminders that energy security is not merely a developmental issue but is intrinsically linked to national sovereignty and the security of states. He stressed that the Turkish government places significant importance on diversifying energy sources, enhancing efficiency, and advancing renewable energy development.
Erdogan further elaborated that Turkey’s national energy and mining policies, along with its strategy to bolster reliance on domestic resources and renewable energy, are aimed at ending the country’s dependence on foreign energy sources.
