NATO Secretary General: Major Defense Deals to Be Announced at Ankara Summit

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced that significant defense contracts worth tens of billions of dollars will be unveiled during the upcoming alliance summit in Ankara. Rutte highlighted a historical increase in defense spending by European members and Canada, totaling $1.2 trillion between 2016 and 2026.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, based on data published by Mehr News Agency citing Al Jazeera, Mark Rutte announced that during the upcoming NATO summit in Ankara, defense contracts valued at tens of billions of dollars will be unveiled.

Speaking in Washington on the eve of the summit, Rutte stated that European NATO members and Canada have increased their defense budgets by approximately $1.2 trillion between 2016 and 2026.

He also reported a nearly 20 percent increase in defense investments for 2025, describing this trend as a “historic transformation” in NATO’s military capabilities.

The NATO Secretary General, referencing the presence of Volodymyr Zelensky at the Ankara summit, emphasized that the alliance will continue its support for Ukraine and demonstrate its readiness to defend all member states.

Rutte also stressed the development of defense industries within NATO member countries, stating that military and industrial cooperation from the United States to Turkey can enhance the alliance’s deterrence capabilities and create extensive employment opportunities.
