Netanyahu Vows to Block Return of Residents to Southern Lebanon

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, based on data published by Mehr News Agency, citing Al Jazeera, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated after the signing of a framework agreement between his regime and the Lebanese government that residents would not be permitted to return to southern Lebanon.

Netanyahu reiterated rhetoric regarding Iran and Hezbollah, asserting that the framework agreement delivered a significant blow to Iran, which he claimed sought to impose a withdrawal from southern Lebanon on Israel. He further alleged that the agreement stipulates that Iran and Hezbollah will have no role in Lebanon and that the Lebanese army will be allowed to begin controlling two experimental areas in southern Lebanon.

One of these areas, located south of the Litani River, is entirely outside the security buffer zone. The second area is north of the Litani River, with a small portion falling within an expanded security zone established over the past two weeks, which the Israeli army has explicitly stated no longer needs to be maintained. Netanyahu claimed this represents a major achievement for Israel, emphasizing that Israel will remain in the security belt until Hezbollah is disarmed. He characterized the agreement with Lebanon as a significant setback for Iran and highlighted Israel’s continued presence in the ‘security zone’ as a crucial element.
