US Resumes Procurement of Older Patriot Missiles Amidst Depleted Stockpiles

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the U.S. military has recommenced the acquisition of PAC-2 GEM-T interceptor missiles, an older generation of the Patriot air defense system, to address declining missile reserves. This development was highlighted by Christopher Kallio, CEO of RTX (formerly Raytheon), as reported by the specialized website TWZ, citing Russian media outlet Ruza Al-Youm.

During a conference discussing second-quarter fiscal year 2026 earnings, Kallio announced that the company has secured orders totaling approximately $20 billion, with over $5 billion specifically designated for contracts to purchase GEM-T missiles. He also noted the first domestic order for the mass production of these missiles in over three decades.

While the majority of these new orders originate from international clients, the U.S. military’s resumption of purchasing these missiles marks a significant development after more than 30 years. TWZ reports that this action is being taken amid growing concerns over the depletion of U.S. defensive interceptor missile stockpiles, particularly following extensive use in conflicts across the West Asia region.
