Brazil Presidential Race: Lula da Silva Leads Rival Amidst Bolsonaro’s Legal Challenges

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, results from a poll conducted by the Datafolha institute indicate that current Brazilian President Lula da Silva is ahead of his electoral rival, Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of the former president. This poll was reported by Al Mayadeen, citing Mehr News Agency.

With 70 days left until Brazil’s presidential election, the survey results show da Silva securing 40 percent of the votes, while Bolsonaro is projected to gain 32 percent.

Should the election proceed to a second round, da Silva is expected to garner 48 percent of the votes, with his opponent receiving 43 percent.

Lula da Silva’s lead in this poll comes as the Bolsonaro camp grapples with the repercussions of the former president’s conviction. Following his sentencing to over 27 years in prison for conspiracy to stage a coup, Bolsonaro faced defeat against Lula da Silva in the 2022 elections.
