Former US Defense Secretary Panetta Warns of Trump’s ‘Quagmire’ in Iran Conflict

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, former U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta has acknowledged that the United States is caught in a major predicament due to its conflict with Iran, likening the situation to the Vietnam War.

Speaking to CNN about the potential victor in this conflict, Panetta stated, “History tells us that endless wars do not have happy endings. The administration of Donald Trump does not have a clear objective in engaging with Tehran.”

Panetta, who also served as Director of the CIA during the presidency of Barack Obama, criticized the ongoing military actions by Trump, despite intelligence reports indicating that these aggressions have failed to alter Iran’s positions.

He elaborated, “Americans are paying a heavy price due to a significant increase in oil prices and the cost of living. The prospect of ending the war does not appear promising. Trump is now trapped in a real quagmire and is trying to find a way out.”

Panetta had previously cautioned that his country had made a miscalculation regarding a war with Iran and failed to comprehend the severity of the consequences of closing the Strait of Hormuz.
