Brazil Downgrades Diplomatic Ties with Argentina Over President Milei’s Remarks

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the Brazilian government announced today that it will not reinstate its ambassador to Argentina and has downgraded diplomatic relations with the administration of Javier Milei to the charge d’affaires level. This decision was communicated to Argentina’s Ambassador to Brasília, Daniel Raimondi. The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented him with a formal protest note in response to the offensive statements made by Javier Milei.

Political sources indicated that the recent stances taken by the Argentine President suggest his government is not inclined towards returning to normal relations with Brazil. Earlier, Argentine President Javier Milei visited Brazil for the second time to support the electoral campaign of Flavio Bolsonaro. The eldest son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, often referred to as the “Trump of Brazil,” recently officially launched his campaign to unseat the current Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Lula has been increasing his lead over rivals in anticipation of the October elections.

In São Paulo, alongside Bolsonaro, Milei referred to Lula as “a person with a criminal conviction record,” called the Brazilian government “socialist thieves,” and described the conservative candidate as the only one who could “stop Lula.”
