In a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, da Silva asserted that the tariffs were imposed without fundamental justification and that they are detrimental to both Brazil and the United States.

Da Silva emphasized that remaining at the negotiation table is the best course of action for both Brazil and America. The relationship between Trump and da Silva has reportedly been strained in recent months, particularly as the Brazilian elections approached. During this period, the Brazilian president had previously asked Trump not to interfere in Brazil’s internal elections.

The report also noted that Trump has publicly supported Bolsonaro, da Silva’s rival in the Brazilian elections.
