Israeli Newspaper Warns of Global Economic War Fallout from US Pressure on Iran

An Israeli newspaper has cautioned that the new wave of economic pressure by the Trump administration against Iran could escalate into a global economic conflict, impacting international relations and potentially spiraling out of control.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, The Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a new phase of economic pressure against Iran, termed ‘Operation Economic Ostracism.’ U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin stated that Washington intends to pressure countries and entities continuing economic cooperation with Iran.

The report warns that the implementation of secondary sanctions against Iran could have consequences extending beyond the country’s borders. If the United States targets nations such as China, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Turkey, and Qatar due to their economic ties with Iran, the economic war could become unmanageable and transform into a ‘global economic war; everyone against everyone.’

Historical experience indicates that governments do not necessarily yield to sanctions, according to the report. Therefore, it remains uncertain whether economic pressure can compel Tehran to cease its current policies or alter its strategic direction.
