Venezuela Earthquake Toll Surpasses 6,500

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, based on data published by the Mehr News Agency, quoting the Agence France-Presse, Venezuela‘s interim government has announced 6,509 fatalities resulting from two powerful earthquakes that shook the South American country two months prior. The 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes, which occurred on June 24, devastated the coastal state of La Guaira, causing the collapse of at least 190 buildings. The previous death toll stood at 6,438.

Efforts are ongoing to recover bodies from beneath the rubble in La Guaira, where thousands of residents have been left homeless by the earthquakes and are currently residing in temporary camps. The interim government has not yet disclosed the number of individuals missing following the disaster. Authorities stated that 335 homes have been provided for earthquake victims and have pledged to deliver 4,000 homes by the end of the year.
