Nuri al-Maliki Urges Iraqi Political Forces to Avoid Internal Tensions

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Nuri al-Maliki, the head of Iraq‘s State of Law Coalition, stated that Iraq is currently in a sensitive phase and overcoming these circumstances requires greater responsibility and self-restraint from political movements. Speaking at a meeting with political experts, al-Maliki noted that attempts are being made to stir political unrest in Iraq, but affirmed that the Shiite Coordination Framework continues to support the government in its efforts to maintain national stability and safeguard national interests. He asserted that the government and the Coordination Framework will not permit the country to be drawn into internal conflict.

Regarding the issue of weapon prohibition, al-Maliki underscored the necessity of addressing the matter without resorting to confrontation or violence. He warned that any confrontation could have extremely dangerous consequences and jeopardize Iraq’s stability. The head of the State of Law Coalition further emphasized that internal conflict would harm all sectors of Iraq. He dismissed the notion that such potential conflict would be confined solely to the Shiite community, stating that its repercussions could encompass all groups and segments of Iraqi society.

Al-Maliki also highlighted the importance of adopting a clear approach to prevent Iraq from becoming a stage for resolving regional and international disputes. He additionally called for the swift completion of the cabinet and the appointment of ministers for portfolios that remain vacant, adding that Ali al-Zaidi, the Prime Minister of Iraq, shares this stance.
