German Chargé d’Affaires Summoned by Russian Foreign Ministry Over Drone Incident Claims

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Russia‘s Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that Bernd Finke, the German Chargé d’Affaires in Moscow, was summoned. The ministry’s statement indicated that Finke was summoned on September 2nd in response to recent remarks by German officials directed against Russia.

This action by Moscow follows Germany’s imposition of a series of measures against Russia on Tuesday, purportedly in reaction to a drone incident at Leipzig-Halle Airport. The German government claimed on Tuesday that Russia was responsible for an alleged attempt to attack the airport with a drone on August 4th.

German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser had stated at a press conference in Berlin that the federal government had concluded Russia was responsible for this “hybrid attack” in Leipzig. German federal prosecutors characterized the incident as a “serious attack on Germany’s transport and logistics infrastructure.” According to reports from public media outlets NDR, WDR, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, German investigators discovered a third drone near Leipzig Airport on August 14th and subsequently found traces of the military explosive material hexogen in the vicinity.
