Netanyahu’s Attempt to Meet Trump Fails Amidst Tightened US-Israel Relations
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing informed sources, claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attempted to arrange a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of his trip to New York, but his efforts did not bear fruit.
The newspaper added that Netanyahu and his close associates had previously hoped Trump would support Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of the Israeli regime, during his election campaign. However, with the worsening relations between the two, such a possibility now appears unlikely.
Media outlets of the Israeli regime have adopted a similar narrative. Channel 13 of Israeli television reported that intelligence and security warnings prompted Israeli security officials to recommend shortening Netanyahu’s stay in the United States and to avoid overnight stays in New York after recent discussions.
The Israeli newspaper Maariv also stated that Netanyahu would only stay in the United States for six hours, and this time, no Israeli journalist would accompany his flight. Maariv, quoting officials involved in the trip’s preparations, explained that the short duration of the trip was due to concerns about security incidents and anticipated protests in New York by opponents of Israeli genocide and escalating incursions in the West Bank.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth wrote that Netanyahu would only speak with Israelis at the United Nations, as the world is no longer willing to listen to him. Maariv also indicated that Netanyahu would speak in a tense atmosphere within the auditorium, a climate that has formed following a series of critical speeches regarding Israel’s policies. Scenes of delegations walking out of the hall during his speech are also expected.
In terms of diplomatic efforts and official meetings, reports from Israeli media also suggest that Netanyahu’s political meeting schedule is significantly limited compared to his previous trips. Despite Tel Aviv’s attempts to arrange a meeting between Trump and Netanyahu, this encounter has not been included in Trump’s schedule. Israeli media claimed that Netanyahu’s and Trump’s schedules in New York do not align, preventing such a meeting. Furthermore, an American official stated that the Israeli Prime Minister is not on the list of individuals scheduled to meet with the U.S. President on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
This comes as Netanyahu’s planned meeting in Texas with prominent businessman and former U.S. Secretary Elon Musk was also canceled. Previously, an Israeli team had traveled to the meeting location to prepare for this engagement.
