US Accuses Iran of Supporting Houthi Attacks at UN Security Council

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, during a United Nations Security Council session, the Deputy Representative of the United States to the UN, Jeff Bartos, condemned attacks on Saudi Arabian airports. In what was described as an unfounded claim, Bartos urged Iran to halt its alleged support for Yemen‘s Ansarullah movement. The US official expressed concern over escalating tensions and, without acknowledging Saudi Arabia’s extensive military operations and blockade against Yemen, pointed to recent missile strikes on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. Bartos asserted that Yemeni fighters are acting as proxies for Tehran, a stance he claimed undermines regional stability, jeopardizes maritime security, and endangers civilians.
The Deputy US Representative to the UN called for an end to attacks by Yemeni forces against what he termed the Yemeni government and Saudi Arabia, emphasizing Washington’s solidarity with both nations against alleged threats from the group. He also indicated cooperation with regional and international partners to counter the Sana’a government, safeguard freedom of navigation, and bolster long-term regional stability.
Concurrently, Sarah McIntosh, the United Kingdom’s representative to the UN, aligned with the US position, attributing the escalation of tensions to Yemeni forces. She condemned these actions, stating that the group’s attacks exacerbate civilian suffering, intensify conflict, and diminish the prospects for peace. Without referencing Saudi Arabia’s aggression and blockade against Yemen, McIntosh stressed the importance of returning to diplomacy and pursuing a political solution. The UK representative also highlighted London’s allocation of $137 million in humanitarian aid to Yemen this year and called for the implementation of Security Council sanctions against individuals and groups subject to Resolution 2140.
