Gaza Hospitals Face Imminent Collapse as Power Generator Exhaustion Threatens Thousands of Patients

The director of Al-Shifa Hospital complex in the Gaza Strip has issued an urgent warning that the lives of thousands of critically ill patients are in severe jeopardy due to the exhaustion of vital power generators. Since the implementation of the ceasefire, no medical equipment or generators have been allowed entry into the besieged territory, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, the director of the Al-Shifa hospital complex in the Gaza Strip has raised alarm regarding the critical threat posed to thousands of patients due to the rapid deterioration and exhaustion of essential electrical generators in the enclave. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, the director of the medical facility, informed Al Jazeera that since the establishment of the recent truce, not a single piece of medical equipment or a replacement power generator has been permitted to enter the Gaza Strip, compounding the severe shortages.

These alarming statements come as the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza released updated figures confirming the staggering human toll of the ongoing conflict initiated by the Israeli military since October 7, 2023. The ministry reported that 72,051 individuals have been martyred in the conflict to date. Furthermore, the cumulative number of wounded due to the attacks on Gaza has reached 171,706 people.

Recent updates indicate that over the preceding hours, the bodies of two more martyrs were transferred to hospitals, and an additional 15 individuals sustained injuries. Thousands more people remain unaccounted for, presumed trapped beneath the rubble of destroyed structures.

Analyzing data since the ceasefire commenced on October 11, 2025, the figures show that 591 people have been martyred and 1,598 individuals have been wounded during the truce period. Rescue teams have managed to recover the bodies of 726 martyrs from under the debris since the ceasefire began. Data published by Mehr News Agency underscores that the overall humanitarian situation across Gaza is currently described as extremely critical.
