Russia Warns Hormuz Strait Crisis Could Threaten Global Chokepoints

According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Igor Sechin, the CEO of the Russian oil company Rosneft, has warned that the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz could pave the way for threats to other chokepoints in global supply and logistics chains. Sechin, who heads Russia’s largest oil company, stated on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum that the Hormuz crisis has created a dangerous trend. He indicated that other critical points in global logistics, including the Strait of Malacca, the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, the Strait of Gibraltar, the Cape of Good Hope, the Danish and Turkish Straits, as well as the Suez and Panama Canals, could now be at risk. He emphasized that these routes are not only vital for the global energy sector, as nearly all the world’s oil trade passes through them, but are also essential for all global trade. Sechin also highlighted the unique role of the Arctic region in the context of the Hormuz crisis, describing it as a reliable logistical route. He expressed support for efforts by some countries to establish alternative routes, noting the Arctic’s unparalleled significance for global trade needs. In this situation, its importance is recognized not only as a source of strategic resources but, more critically, as a secure and dependable logistical pathway.
