Lebanese President Welcomes Iran-US Understanding, Hopes for Regional Stability
According to the International Desk of Webangah News Agency, Lebanon‘s President Joseph Aoun has welcomed the recent memorandum of understanding reached between Iran and the United States. He conveyed his gratitude to all parties involved in efforts to include Lebanon in the ongoing initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions and halting military actions across various fronts.
President Aoun stated that he has been closely monitoring the announced understanding between the US and Iran, which emphasizes the cessation of military activities and tensions in the region, with particular attention to Lebanon. He commended the respect shown for Lebanon’s specific status and characteristics as outlined in the memorandum, acknowledging that Lebanon’s stability and security are integral to any serious endeavor to bolster regional stability.
Highlighting the sacrifices and immense burdens borne by the Lebanese people recently, President Aoun declared that the nation, particularly those in areas subjected to aggression and destruction, who have lost loved ones, livelihoods, and homes, now seeks concrete actions stemming from these understandings. He expressed a desire for these agreements to end the cycle of violence and usher in an era of stability, security, recovery, and reconstruction.
The Lebanese President extended his thanks to all countries and entities that contributed to the achievement of this memorandum of understanding. He also appreciated the efforts of those who, understanding the extent of the suffering endured by the Lebanese in recent months, worked to ensure Lebanon’s inclusion in the current endeavors to end tensions and stop military operations on various fronts.
President Aoun concluded by expressing Lebanon’s hope that this development will pave the way for a broader path that strengthens regional stability, upholds the sovereignty of nations, and respects the rights of their peoples.
